Lending

Prometheus lends to environmentally sustainable and socially responsible businesses and projects. We lend to individuals, companies, incorporated societies and charities whose activities are moving our economy and our society toward a sustainable future. This includes loans for home purchase and house building but only where the dwelling has significant energy efficiency or other features that benefit our environment.

We also offer finance for eco-products and can arrange group borrowing for community projects.

Does your project meet our criteria?

If you have a project that falls within the above description, or fits within one of the loan sectors outlined on our Loan Projects page, it is likely that you will meet our responsible investment criteria.

To find out whether your project meets our financial criteria you will need to submit a loan application with relevant financial information. You are, of course, welcome to call us on 0800 776 648 to talk to one of our loan managers and get some of your questions answered before you decide to submit a loan application.

Apply for a loan

You can find guidance here on how to apply for a loan from Prometheus, please  follow the instructions provided. You should also read the explanation of the Loan Application Process to ensure that you understand that and know what to expect. Guidance on information requirements is included with the application form. Providing full information with your application will help the assessment process.

You will also need to read the Loan Security page to consider what security options you have and what you wish to propose as security for your loan.

No Risk Capital

Please note that Prometheus is not able to provide risk capital or start-up capital for projects with higher levels of risk. We only provide loans where there is a high degree of assurance that the loan can be repaid.

This policy stance is primarily because of the duty of care we owe to our depositors to safeguard their funds. However, we also feel a responsibility to our borrowers and want to support projects with a high probability of success rather than lend to people, businesses or organisations with noble aims but a significant risk of getting themselves into an unsustainable debt position.

Risk capital is normally provided by those prepared to share in the profits and losses associated with a new venture and usually comes with other conditions attached than a standard loan agreement.
