Energy Efficiency & Renewables

Renewable Energy projects we lend to include solar water heating installations, solar photovoltaics, micro-hydro, and wind power.  This is an essential sector for building a sustainable future and we are always interested in applications for businesses or individual projects in this sector.

We also lend for energy-efficiency projects and/or appliances.  These can include insulation retrofits, fuel-efficient vehicles, and any other any energy-saving technology or design solutions.  Many such design solutions and technologies are an integral part of making a stand-alone household renewable energy system more feasible.

Hybrid Car Loans - Update

We started offering car finance for hybrids in early 2006 and our experience since then has borne out our positive expectations. Over the past year to June 2008 we have provided loans to 32 purchasers of hybrid vehicles, a total of around $600,000. more »

Solar Water Heating Update

Prometheus financed around $3.8 million of solar water heating installations from mid-2006 to mid-2007 under the auspices of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority's finance assistance scheme. Changes to that scheme from mid 2007 saw applications drop away markedly but we continued to finance SWH installations outside that scheme. more »

Hybrid Cars

We have entered into an arrangement with the Clean Green Car Company to provide vehicle finance to their clients. We offer a simple stream-lined eco-purchase loan application process and provide finance at slightly below standard market rates for vehicle finance to purchasers of low-emission fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles. more »

Envirocar Limited

This company has developed a computer controlled technology which can be easily fitted to fuel-efficient diesels to enable them to run on recycled and filtered cooking oil. This bio-fuel is supplied by the company at 70c/litre and is a wholly renewable transport fuel. more »

In mid-2006 we heard from the Energy efficiency and Conservation Authority that they had chosen Prometheus as their preferred provider for their solar water heating finance assistance programme for 2006/07. more »
