Resource Recovery & Recycling

The projects we lend to in this sector are mostly community-owned business enterprises that are involved in running waste and recycling collection contracts for their local councils.  They generally have shared aims such as substantially reducing waste to landfill, recycling recovered resources back into productive use, developing local employment  and encouraging sustainable economic development.

There is often a strong overlap between these community-owned businesses and other community development activities that they undertake.  However, we have chosen, for the most part to report these loan projects in the category as that is their main area of activity.  Supporting the development of community businesses is particularly rewarding for Prometheus as they all act in different ways to strengthen their communities and enhance their local environment.
